What is a trading terminal?

A trading terminal is an online portfolio tool that connects traders to multiple exchanges via APIs. As a dashboard or hub for crypto trading activities, the trading terminal allows users to order and manage their digital asset trades across multiple platforms at once.

Access easy-to-use bot strategies on multiple exchanges with Quadency’s smart trading terminal.

Let’s take a close-up look at five major elements that the best crypto terminals share, straight from the Quadency dashboard:

5 Key Elements of the Best Trading Terminals

1-Trading charts

The trading chart gives the trader pricing and trade volume information about a specific digital asset, such as BTC in the 5-year chart below:

Trading terminals should allow you to configure the charts to your specifications. Options include:

  • Change the time frame to as frequent as daily.
  • Choose a chart type, such as Baseline, Candles, or Bars.
  • Select a technical indicator, including Bollinger Bands, MACD, and Price Oscillator.
  • Mark up your chart as you wish with trendlines, brush, text, pattern, etc.

2-Order book

Order books display the active online buy and sell orders for a digital asset, along with quantities and pricing. They are split into two sections:

  1. “Asks” (sell requests denoted in red)
  2. “Bids” (buy orders denoted in green).

3-Recent Trades

Found below the order book you'll find "Recent Trades". Here, you'll see all the most recent trades made on the crypto asset in question on the particular exchange where you are trading.

4-Order Form

The order form is what you’ll fill out when you want to place a buy or sell order. Multiple order types will be available, depending on the exchange you are trading through. Generally, you’ll find market and limit orders:

  1. Market (taker) orders are buys or sells that happen immediately and generally cost slightly more in trading fees.
  2. Limit (maker) orders are placed only when certain conditions are met. For instance, traders can select a target price for their trades so they only go through if the price is reached.

  • Balances & PnL
  • Open orders
  • Trading history
